Florence, Italy

After a long exhausting day in Rome, we headed up to Florence.
Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with approximately 370,000 inhabitants, expanding to over 1.5 million in the metropolitan area.

We landed an awesome hotel room!

Look at those doors!

It had a very historic feel with antique furniture and all.

Once were all settled in, we took care of our tummies with amazing Italian food then headed back to the hotel to crash for the night and begin our tour of Florence the next day.

One of the busiest areas of Florence is Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square), a large city square located on the south side of Florence's famous Duomo (cathedral).

The Florence Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiori) or simply "Duomo" is Florence's tallest building and the city's most famous landmark. This massive Gothic cathedral dominates the skyline of Florence Italy (Firenze) and is generally considered to be the centre of the city. When completed in 1463, Brunelleschi's dome was the largest of its kind in the world.

Inside the Duomo, is a huge painting by Vasari and Zuccari called the "Last Judgment". Visitors can climb the dome staircase and enjoy a bird's eye view of this Renaissance dome, the Giotto Tower and the Florentine skyline.

The city of Florence is divided by the Arno River. Tourist attractions exist on both the north and the south sides of the river. Visitors to Florence Italy can enjoy relaxing walks along the Arno.

Ponte Vecchio Bridge in Florence Italy

The Vecchio Bridge (Ponte Vecchio) is the oldest and most famous bridge in Florence Italy. Locals and tourists love to visit this beautiful bridge that spans the Arno River and to browse the jewelry shops that are located on the bridge.

The kids enjoyed the bus ride as we headed up Michelangelo Square

Michelangelo Square (Piazzale Michelangelo) is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Florence Italy. Perched high on a hillside overlooking the renaissance city, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of Florence's skyline. A replica of Michelangelo's Statue of David stands in the centre of the plaza.
