Paris Part V / Notre Dame Cathedral / Night Life

Nortre Dame

Notre Dame de Paris; French for Our Lady of Paris, also known as Notre Dame Cathedral, is a Gothic, Catholic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. It is the cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Paris: that is, it is the church that contains the cathedra (official chair) of the Archbishop of Paris, currently André Vingt-Trois. The cathedral treasury houses a reliquary with the purported Crown of Thorns.

Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in France and in Europe, and the naturalism of its sculptures and stained glass are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture. The first period of construction from 1163 into the 1240's coincided with the musical experiments of the Notre Dame school.

Jean de Jandun recognized the cathedral as one of Paris's three most important buildings in his 1323 "Treatise on the Praises of Paris"

After a long break in a quiet park we sat and let the kids run around for a bit.  Nightfall begam to appear.

We tried so hard to find where these cruize boats docked but everytime we found a docking location they were either closed or headed off.

The Latin Quarter of Paris (French: Quartier latin) is an area in the 5th and parts of the 6th arrondissement of Paris. It is situated on the left bank of the River Seine, around the Sorbonne.

Known for its student life, lively atmosphere and bistros, the Latin Quarter is the home to a number of higher education establishments besides the university itself, such as the École Normale Supérieure, the École des Mines de Paris (a ParisTech institute), the Schola Cantorum, and the Jussieu university campus. Other establishments such as the École Polytechnique (also a ParisTech engineering school) have relocated in recent times to more spacious settings.

This strip was the highlight of our trip!  We found awesome souvenier stores and more.  We only wish we would've waited to eat dinner because one waiter offered "kids eat free" as we strolled by.  Next time we will definitely eat on the Latin Quarter!

Amazing view of the Notre Dame Cathedral

After miles and miles of walking we never were able to hit a cruize.  No worries though...There will be a next time:)

Paris was a nightmare and amazing all in one.  I can't wait to do it again--Just the two of us!

jusqu'à la prochaine fois bye bonne!
